“PCATP will make DDP Mandatory to Earn Credits” - Shahab Ghani Khan Closing Ceremony of International Summer Studio-Report and Photography Ar. Farida G

Upon successful completion of the International Summer Studio on July 14, 2007, a celebration was made in the evening in the honor of all participating students and faculty members.
Ar. Shahab Ghani Khan, Chairman Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners was  invited as the Chief Guest whereas the Coordinator of the Campus,

Prof. Musarrat Hussain Shah was the guest of honor at closing ceremony.

Addressing the audience, Ar. Shahab Ghani Khan said that though he could not stay at the Campus for all 14 days but he could see the energy and enthusiasm and the level of vibrancy among students, faculty and the Campus which speak itself for a big success. He said that students' enthusiasm and body language shows their confidence which has risen up due to this Studio. Appreciating the efforts of Dr. Arshad Ali, he said that Dr. Ali has proved himself as a visionary leader and his initiative would be followed up by other institutions of the country. At this occasion he declared PCATP's full support to DDP and said, "PCATP, maybe not now but in few years down the line, will make it a mandatory course to earn credits."

In his remarks, Dr. Larry R Barrow said that it was a great pleasure and honor for him to have been invited to this place. He was highly inspired by the hospitality extended to him during his stay. He said that no matter, what is our religion and how we dress up, we all are similar in every manner. Even as a designer, Dr. Barrow said, we are very similar in terms of urban and design issues.  He was impressed with the digital approach of young generation of Pakistan. "What's so great about architecture these days, versus when I was a student about twenty five or thirty years ago, is that we now talk about being socially responsible and doing things environmentally and you guys will get to do it almost naturally", said by Dr. Barrow.
He said that students are very important to faculty members and likewise teaching is a great career because they do influence people, good or bad so it's a commendable career.

With the remarks by Dr. Larry R Barrow, all faculty members and students were presented shields and certificates of participation.
The evening came to an end with a presentation by Dr. Larry Barrow on the use of Information Technology in the field of Architecture. He explained how the Digital Architecture emerged in past few decades.

Finally Dr. Arshad Ali, Chairman Department of Architecture NWFP UET, Abbotabad Campus thanked all the participants and guests for their presence and contribution in DDP

Jury

A panel of Jury was formed to examine all projects as designed by the students under the theme of 'Future Work Places'. The Jury comprised of following members:

3)Dr. Arshad Ali, Chairman Department of Architecture,

MOU Signed

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on July 16, 2007 by the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar and Graduate School of Architecture, MSU (Missisipi State University) USA for the establishment of a Virtual Graduate School of Architecture at the Department of Architecture NWFP UET for overtaking research activities under PAK-US Joint Academic & Research Program.
